Vietnamese low-cost carrier Vietjet has taken a significant step in its development. The airline has received its first Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft from an impressive order of 200 jets, valued at 32 billion US dollars. This milestone delivery marks the introduction of the first Boeing aircraft into the airline’s fleet. The ceremonial handover took place on September 21, 2025, at Boeing’s facility in Seattle, attended by Vietnamese President Luong Cuong and prominent figures from the aviation world.

Technological Advancements of the Boeing 737-8 MAX

The Boeing 737-8 MAX is at the forefront of commercial aircraft modernization. With a length of 39.5 metres and a wingspan of 35.7 metres, it is capable of reaching speeds of up to Mach 0.82 and a maximum altitude of 41,000 feet. The aircraft is designed to carry up to 210 passengers and has a range of 6,584 kilometres, meeting most regional transport needs in Southeast Asia. It is powered by two CFM LEAP-1B engines, ensuring efficient and environmentally friendly operation.

Safety Innovations and Strategic Partnership

Vietjet Chairwoman, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, emphasized that this first delivery marks the beginning of a new era in the partnership with Boeing. This step is also part of a broader context of cooperation between the USA and Vietnam, strengthening business and diplomatic ties between the two nations. Vietjet places great importance on updated safety systems, particularly the redesigned MCAS system and the aircraft’s recertification in 2021.

Comparison with the Competition: Airbus A320neo

The Boeing 737-8 MAX directly competes with the rival Airbus A320neo. While the A320neo offers slightly better fuel efficiency, the 737-8 boasts a higher seating capacity in a high-density configuration. This factor is crucial for low-cost carriers like Vietjet, which prioritise operational efficiency.

Future Plans and Expansion

Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, highlighted that the 737-8 will be a key element in Vietjet’s route expansion and in strengthening its position in the Southeast Asian market. The massive order underscores Vietnam’s growing influence in the global aviation industry.

The delivery of the first Boeing 737-8 MAX to Vietjet opens a new chapter for Vietnamese aviation. It also symbolises the commitment not only of Vietjet but of the entire Asian region to progress and innovation in air transport.

Hi! I’m Beatrix, and at AeroInfo.eu I’m in charge of everything that keeps this European aviation portal for pilots running smoothly. I publish articles, tweak whatever needs fixing, and make sure everything works as it should. I live somewhere between text editing and airplanes – and I absolutely love that combination. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve looked up at the sky and dreamed of flying and piloting aircraft. Now, I’m finally making that dream come true – I’m currently training to become a pilot at the Aeroprague flight school, and with every flight, I’m getting closer to my goal. It’s not always easy, but that just makes me even more determined. I want to show that when you truly love something, you can chase it – even all the way to the clouds.
