Terminal 2: More Liquids and No Need to Unpack Electronics
Effective 1 October 2025, passengers departing from Terminal 2 on flights within the Schengen Area may carry:
-
one container of liquid over 100 ml, up to two litres per person (e.g., a bottle of water, cosmetics, or food items),
-
the standard one-litre bag containing containers of up to 100 ml.
A further benefit is that at security lanes equipped with CT scanners, there is no need to remove electronics or liquids from hand luggage. Prague Airport currently has six of these scanners in Terminal 2, with two more to be added next year.
At lanes still operating with conventional X-ray machines, passengers must continue to remove electronics and liquids separately. However, the new rule allowing one larger liquid container applies at these checkpoints as well.
Terminal 1: No Changes
In Terminal 1, which serves non-Schengen flights, the rules remain unchanged. The following strict limits continue to apply:
-
Liquids are limited to containers of 100 ml or less, placed in a single, transparent one-litre bag.
-
Containers larger than 100 ml are not permitted.
The different rules are in place because Terminal 1 is not yet equipped with modern CT technology. However, Prague Airport plans to upgrade the terminal and build a centralized security checkpoint, similar to the one already in place in Terminal 2.
Exemptions and Important Notes
Exemptions for baby food, special dietary items, and liquids required for medical reasons remain in effect. The airport also advises passengers that security rules may differ at other airports, particularly for their return journey. It is always recommended to check the regulations for the departure airport of your return flight.
The rules for checked baggage remain unchanged. As a reminder, items such as power banks, laptops, and e-cigarettes must always be carried in hand luggage. Flammables, explosives, and other prohibited items are not permitted in any baggage.
A Major Step Towards More Convenient Travel
“Recent passenger satisfaction surveys have already shown a significant improvement during the summer months, simply because the introduction of CT scanners in Terminal 2 means travellers no longer have to remove electronics and liquids from their hand luggage. Now, by also allowing larger quantities of liquids, we are taking another major step forward,” says Martin Kučera, Member of the Prague Airport Board of Directors responsible for Operations and Security.
The airport is planning further upgrades and has not ruled out additional easing of restrictions in the future, pending the successful performance of the new system.
