First unveiled in 2023, this new generation aircraft, part of the legendary Cessna Citation 560XL family, is a modern midsize business jet representing a significant advancement in technology and cabin comfort. The first production aircraft, manufactured at the Wichita, Kansas factory, rolled off the production line in September 2025 and is now officially commencing commercial operations.

What the Ascend Offers

The aircraft features the modern Garmin G5000 avionics suite, including autothrottle, advanced weather detection, and other modern navigation functions. The onboard avionics represent the latest technology available in the mid-size business jet segment. The Ascend is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW545D engines, enabling it to achieve a maximum cruise speed of 817 km/h and a range of up to 1,940 nautical miles (3,593 km) at optimal load.

The cabin offers a flat floor, enhancing passenger comfort, and its design builds upon the previous 560XL models, of which more than 1,000 have been delivered to date. Given its comfort and technological features, the Ascend is targeted at customers seeking to combine productivity, comfort, and efficient flight in a single package.

Significance of the Delivery

The delivery of the first aircraft on December 30, 2025, marks an important milestone for Textron Aviation. The aircraft has successfully completed the certification process, launched serial production, and is now heading to customers worldwide. According to company representatives, this delivery confirms their commitment to pushing the boundaries of performance and comfort in the mid-size business jet segment.

Context and Future

The Citation Ascend was originally unveiled at the EBACE aviation exhibition in 2023 as a successor to part of the 560XL series. FAA type certification was granted in November 2025, paving the way for customer deliveries at the end of the year. The Ascend is expected to compete with other aircraft in the mid-size segment, such as the Embraer Praetor 500 and Bombardier Challenger 350. Textron is banking on a combination of proven design, modern technologies, and a broad network of service support.

Hi! I’m Beatrix, and at AeroInfo.eu I’m in charge of everything that keeps this European aviation portal for pilots running smoothly. I publish articles, tweak whatever needs fixing, and make sure everything works as it should. I live somewhere between text editing and airplanes – and I absolutely love that combination. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve looked up at the sky and dreamed of flying and piloting aircraft. Now, I’m finally making that dream come true – I’m currently training to become a pilot at the Aeroprague flight school, and with every flight, I’m getting closer to my goal. It’s not always easy, but that just makes me even more determined. I want to show that when you truly love something, you can chase it – even all the way to the clouds.
